Hunting and wilderness knives
These knives are otherwise similar to puukko models, but they have a somewhat longer or/and wider blade and different kinds of gentle finger guards, to be used for hunting, backpacking and such. For these models I most often make a hand forged, zone tempered, mixed carbon steel blade. This kind of blade is stronger at the bolster than one made of hard stainless steel, and easier to sharpen. For a hunting knife a stainless blade is of course still often a good choice. The knife in the second picture (top right), for example, has stainless powder steel (RWL-34) blade.
