Specialities
Here are some "special knives" that doesn't quite fit to the previous chapters.
The first and last are otherwise typical wilderness puukko, but they have carved handles and sheaths for some artistic value (I hope).
The top right puukko is a traditional "Säkylä puukko" made originally in the nineteenth century. While i was studying the history of puukko, I made several different kinds of "hat sheath" puukko models to study their construction. This one was the hardest one to make because of the carved tin decorations on its birch root handle.
The second from left is a "table puukko". I use to make a lot of these and other knives from 1996 to 2014 for Design Forum shop in Helsinki city center. It was a well known showroom and shop promoting good Finnish design (and still is a showroom). At the time I was quite proud to be the only knifemaker to have his knives on sale there, but sadly the shop was closed for some inexplicable reason in 2014.
The second from right is a small "self defence" knife with a sharpened back of the blade and "silent" sheath. Then there's the only Bowie knife I have made. That was a special order.
